2021 Three Gardens Shiraz

Vineyard: Comprising of three vineyard sites across the Barossa, the Three Gardens Shiraz is a blend celebrating the passion and hard work from Helen’s old vine Salem Road vineyard, Pete and Mel’s old vines at Gomersal Road and the Gnadenberg Road vineyard in Eden Valley.

Season: The season began with good winter rain that followed into spring. The soil profile retained moisture during budburst and throughout the growing season. Warm summer days but cooler than usual, supported a healthy vine canopy and enabled a good ripening season. Disease pressure remained low, aided by the cool evening breezes. An excellent vintage and will be regarded as one to remember.

Winemaking: Hand-picked Shiraz bunches were de-stemmed and fermented as whole berries. Consistent and gentle hand plunging of wine juice proceeded for 14 days. The juice was gently basket pressed before maturing in seasoned French oak barrels for 24 months. The wine was bottled without filtering or fining and is classified as vegan friendly.

Appearance: Medium ruby red with purple hue.

Aroma/Bouquet: Aromas of violets, plum, raspberry, cranberry, black pepper and dried herbs.

Palate: A dry and savoury palate with medium to high acidity that weaves through delicate bramble fruits, ripe raspberry, black cherry and blackberry leaf. The flavour intensity is light to medium with a medium finish on the palate.

Food Pairing: We enjoyed this wine with grilled snapper and char-grilled vine tomatoes. But for alternatives try an Indian curry, pasta, risotto, pizza or any other light to medium dishes.
